Bed and Breakfast in Florence Torre della Signoria - Piazza Della Signoria - In the XI century, in the old Florentia City rose several towers, high and slim, which characterized the entire built-up area surrounded by the Town Walls. These "towers" were built by the noble families which moved from the countryside to the town, which at that time was becoming the new economical and political centre of medioeval Italy.
The noble families of the city, to show their power, began to build higher and more massive tower-houses. These families were always fighting one against the other for the city control, so most of them concluded alliances between them. These alliances gave birth to the "consorterie", coalitions of families often reinforced by blood ties. The tower-houses of the "consorterie" were built right around the tower of the leader family, in that way a sort of a bundle was built by a net of quays and balconies. Almost the entire city was scattered with tower-houses and one of them rose just where the "Torre della Signoria" now lies.
