Torre della Signoria
Firenze, - Location - Piazza della Signoria
In the XI century, in the old Florentia City rose several towers, high and slim, which characterized the entire built-up area surrounded by the Town Walls. These "towers" were built by the noble families which moved from the countryside to the town, which at that time was becoming the new economical and political centre of medioeval Italy.
The noble families of the city, to show their power, began to build higher and more massive tower-houses.
These families were always fighting one against the other for the city control, so most of them concluded alliances between them. These alliances gave birth to the "consorterie", coalitions of families often reinforced by blood ties.
The tower-houses of the "consorterie" were built right around the tower of the leader family, in that way a sort of a bundle was built by a net of quays and balconies. Almost the entire city was scattered with tower-houses and one of them rose just where the "Torre della Signoria" now lies.
House description
The "Torre della Signoria" lies just in the heart of the city, in most famous square of Florence: "Piazza della Signoria".
The "Torre della Signoria" lies where once rose one of the tower-houses which scattered the entire city in medieval time.
Almost all the rooms have original coffered ceilings.
The floor is entirely made of oak timber, the furniture of walnut.
All the rooms are made more precious with antique pieces from Palazzo Medici Riccardi (once the city-residence of the Duke Cosimo I dè Medici). The house is warm and comfortable, with exclusive finishings.
The view you join from every room, from the one on the red roofs of the narrow city lanes to the superb one on the Piazza della Signoria, makes you breath an air of refined hospitality with an unmistakable ancient note.
It will be sufficient for you to close your eyes to feel the quiet atmosphere of the Florentine Renaissance.
